If all you anglers are like me it is hard to get out on the lakes when the Temps are hanging at 100 degrees, but got to say the fish will still bite.
The Full Moon during the month of August will fall on the 5th and the major fishing time for that day is in the heat of the day from 12:33 pm til 1:41 pm. I can ensure you that will be the hottest part of the day so make sure that your are prepared for the heat with plenty of water and sunblock. If you are like me I do not turn down a chance to get out for a night trip and the major for the 5th at night is 12 midnight til about 2 am. In this case make sure that you have plenty of rest and a lot of coffee, meaning do not fish so much that you will have problems driving home. Would not want you to slip a nap in while driving and not be able to get back to the lake the rest of the season.
The New moon is schedule for the 20th and the major fishing is 12:10 pm til 2:50 pm and here again you are in the heat of the day so don’t forget the ice-chest full of cold water, or if you are night fishing the time should be Midnight til 2:45 am.
I know that every month I write my predictions and advise all anglers to go the three days prior and three day after the Full Moon and the New Moon. Being here in Memphis Tn I can tell you the dogs days are set in and the Bass are showing me that they are willing to bite after dark a lot better than what I am seeing in the heat of the day. There are always exceptions to the rule, that could change like a cool front comes through and stay for afew days.
I say this, but then on July 26 I was at a local pond and it was 1:30pm and I just happened to throw a Texas Rigged Worm in the middle of a tree and pulled a Bass-Hog from it. So sometimes you can go by the ASTRO Charts and other times go with your gut feelings. This was just behind a bad rain storm that Memphis got earlier that day and I was thinking the shore bait was being washed into the pond and I ventured out to see if I could get lucky…..It was better than pulling the one arm bandits at Tunica MS.
This being one of the most hottest months the tips I will leave you with is :
Early Morning…and I mean at the crack of dawn …try Top-Water Baits, give that heart of yours a jump start when a hog blows up on the Top Water Bait.
Sunset go back to Top-Water baits
During the day and after dark I will be throwing Texas Rigged and Carolina Rigged Worms, Lizards, Brush Hogs the biggest I got. Look for the fish to be holding on deep humps or like the big female I found was in the middle of a tree laying in the water. Good luck in August and be safe.
Keep The Hooks Wet
Steve
