Hey all you anglers I have found some crappie at Horseshoe Lake in Arkansas, along with about a thousand other anglers.
With the weather finally breaking got out on the 30th before daylight and ventured over to Arkansas to check out the reports I was hearing about the crappie biting. I can tell you that they were hitting minnows about 5 to 8 feet of water below a float. Look for them across from Camp Carefree just out side of the trees.
You need to get there as the day breaks, because when the sun comes up and starts to warm they will turn off and you will have to troll in the middle of the lake, and I did not see a bunch on folks picking up many.
There is a bait shop just outside of Camp Carefree to pick up minnows and here again make sure that you get there early, I had to wait 45 minutes to get bait and there had to be at least 50 boats waiting for the same.
Camp Carefree has two launch ramps and they want $7.00 to launch in advance, watch the right hand side there is a stump just out from the ramp.
The water temp appeared to be about 73 degrees and like I said everyone was there trying their luck. The bream bite was another hot item though I was out after the crappie, was not after the bream. Reports were stating the bass were slow, and I did throw a spinner-bait trying to entice a bass bite, but like I said when the lake filled up with all the boats water skiers, it was time to pack it up. May go during the week would have been a better choice, when there are not that many folks out.
I Just wanted to let you know that I had the chance to check out Horseshoe and wanted everyone to know that the crappie are still to be had in Arkansas.
