To all my readers:
Sorry I have not been out looking for crappie this past week. Instead, I have been looking for the Bass Hogs and the funny part is I have found them. This one was caught on February 27, 2009. Look real close and you will see I was using the ringworm that I talk so much about.
Saturday the 7th of March I caught about 45 nice bass but not the hogs I have been searching for.
Today the 9th of March I hit the mother load, meaning about 2pm I had some time to kill and the outside was about 78 degrees with very little wind. I ventured out to a small lake close to the house and in less than a hour I had a six pounder trying to take the rod out of my hand. Got him in and took pictures then proceed down to this log that was laying in and out of the water. I sat down on the log and just kind of pitched the worm next to the log and it landed on top of the log.
I gave it a little jerk and it rolled off to the left and right beside the log. I heard my braid go “PING” and the tip of my rod was headed for my wrist. I set the hook as to launch the fish and it did not give. After about 7 minutes the fish surfaced and I landed her. She measured 29 1/2 inches long and had a girth of 26 inches, she had a double hand full of eggs in her belly.
I weighed her and the scales said 11 pounds, not bad for a hour of fishing.
ALERT the small ponds are starting to produce and in about another week of 70 degrees it will be spinnerbait/topwater. Check your local ponds and see if the hogs are not coming in to spawn.
All my Fish these past few days have been taken in four or less feet of water. Water Temp approx 52 degrees.
Let me know how things are going looking forward to the pictures that you will send. Yes, you will have to check back to see this hog I caught today as soon as I get the pictures developed.
UpDate: I got the pictures developed.
This is the bass hog I caught bank fishing on March 9, 2009 so don’t let not having a boat stop you from getting out there and having a day of fun.

This 11 pounder was landed using the ringworm again. You can’t beat a winter time outside temp of 78 degrees.
Keep The Hooks Wet
