This is something to think about, and I do not know if all the fishing folks can do anything about it.
What I am getting at is this: Old Monofilament Line on Store Shelves.
When you go into a Baitshop, Walmart, or any sporting goods store, how old is the line that you are buying?
My thought, is why can’t the company putting the line out, also include a date it was spooled. Who knows, you might be buying line that has been sitting on the shelf for five years before it is bought.
Another way to tell if the line you are putting on your reel is old, all of us have held the line in front of the reel with two fingers and noticed some white dust or powder.
I am guessing you just put on some line that might let the biggest bass go, because the line broke.
I know I would not trust it on any of my reels, might be used on my bream pole instead of throwing it away.
Get some use out of it. After all, you spent good money for the line. Or take it back where you bought it and ask the store to replace the spool, making sure that you keep the receipt.
This is something to think about while the winter is keeping you off the water and you are spooling your reels for spring fishing.
There has got to be away to contact someone about adding the date to a spool.
