Pond Fishing

April 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Just wanted to jump in here and again mention it does not hurt to talk to some guys about fishing. Yesterday 4/07/08, I was at a pond near the house and was talking to this guy about how the bass hogs were not taking the lures today.

He told me about this guy that had three lakes on his property and if I went over and talked to him, he might let me fish the lakes.

As it turned out when I pulled in the driveway, I told a buddy that I think I know this guy and it turned out to be a guy that use to work under me at Bass Pro. Not only did he give me permission to fish the lakes anytime I wanted too, but bring my boat over also and launch it.

We talked for awhile and then I told him I would go check out the lakes and see what they have to offer. The only request that he made was anything I catch over three pounds to put them in the larger lake. It turned out to be a great afternoon.

When I topped the hill, I looked the lake over. It was a small pond with structure from heaven. Just looking at it, I knew that it had to hold some Basshogs for sure.

Well I found a black large pipe that was running water and I told my buddy to throw out in the current and I bet he would catch a fish right off the bat. He is kinda hard headed and he was thinking about throwing to the sticks that were in the lake. I gave him the chance and I walked over above the pipe and threw straight out and brought back in a rattle trap and caught one then another, but by the time I moved on I had caught nine bass from that one spot.

Needless to say he got mad and I told him that I was going to switch to a grape worm so he could catch up with me. He did not think that I had a thought to why I was changing lures, but went ahead and after the first five pounder I caught, he told me someone above was looking after me and telling me what to throw.

I ended up with three eight pounders and three five pounders that I placed in the other lake and will be making plans to return soon.

As you can see it does not hurt to ask about fishing another person’s lake if you’re nice and ask permission first, and honor any request the owner might have.

I am going back to the Tennessee rive this coming weekend and will try and get some good pictures to put on the website next week. Make sure that you visit www.basshogfishing.com and  www.crappieslabfishing.com for updates.
