Other than getting ready for the tournament at the end of the month was able to get out and go fishing the last couple of nice days that Memphis has had.
With temps in the 70’s who would not want to get out and wet a hook, and that is just what I did the 8Th of March and found about 23 bass in about four feet of water that was holding at 57 degrees. I was throwing a Chrome and Blue Rattle Trap and I went through three of them counting today the 11TH of March. Today was like the article I wrote back in November when I said you do not have to many days like this…meaning I nailed at least 50 Bass. Most were at 2 pounds 7 and 8 ouncesĀ and the biggest was 3 pounds 5 ounces and still was using the Chrome and Blue Rattle Trap. The water had warmed up to about 58.9 degrees and still caught them in about four feet of water.
One thing that I noticed that they were healthy and look to be very white meaning they had moved up from the deep water in search of a spot to start building their spring beds. All the fish were starting to get a tummy on them and I figured that the eggs were starting to form.
This lake does not have a lot of shad so I guess they had been feeding on crawfish, and all the fish I caught were very hungry. I would like to say this is just the first step in a great spring season, but I see Memphis is in for some heavy rain and the temps are about to fall back into the 40’s and 50’s. This just might push the fish back off the shallows but not far from where I found them today.
Must be the age I am getting to, but boy when I got home and settled down the pain in all the fish I caught today kicked in and I bet I sleep good tonight. Got to admit it is a good hurting pain…meaning you do not get to many days like today and when you do enjoy them until you hurt.
This is a small lake that I have been going to and will let you know if the drop in temp effects the fish.
Keep The Hooks Wet
Steve
