I once said in a article I wrote a long time ago, “Just because you did not know the LAW it would keep you from getting a ticket”. For some reason the GAME WARDENS do not play that game.
That is what I am trying to help my fellow anglers out ahead of time. The U.S. ARMY CORPS of ENGINEERS is now enforcing mandatory use of a LIFE JACKET on the following lakes in Mississippi: ARKABUTLA, SARDIS, ENID, GRENADA, and it would not surprise me to see other states pick it up for 2010. Run that big motor no matter if you are fishing or boating you better have it on if operating a boat 16 foot and larger.
They are trying this to show the state that wearing jackets will cut down on the water fatalities. Believe it or not 9 out of 10 who drown they found out no LIFE JACKET was being worn.
Come on folks the way they make them now sometimes you can not even tell you have it on. I know that mine will be worn and everyone in my boat will wear one or they will become bank fishing folks…and still should wear one in case you fall in from the bank. I heard a story that a guy fell in at PICKWICK fishing from the rocks and if he had been wearing a PFD he would not have perhaps gone so deep hit his head on the rocks and now fishes in HEAVEN. Practice some safety and it will be a great 2010.
