Latest Fishing Trip

Got to put this one on paper, there are times that you go and do not understand what turned the fish on and that is what happened to me yesterday 11/7/09.

A small lake not 10 minutes from my house where they most of the time do the wakeboarding on it and never fish. I stopped by last Wednesday and asked the owner with the weatherman reporting a great weekend coming up if I could have permission to bring my big boat out and see if I could catch a few fish. He said it would be alright as long as I did not keep everything that I caught, and do not keep anything over 4 pounds.

I arrived at the lake about 11am, and proceeded to back the boat into the lake. I noticed a Bass swim off right at the ramp which told me they were shallow. I did not even crank the big motor but lowered the trolling motor and started around the small cove. The water temp was 58 to 60 degrees and the outside air was 72 and sunny.

I was throwing a Chatter-bait, Plastic Worm, and a Rattle Trap, and for the first time that is all I took. I did not load up my boat with every piece of tackle I had, I was dead set on making one of these work.

As soon as I came out of the cove and hit a section of bank that was in the sun and had a sudden drop off my buddy got a hit on the worm and the fish bit half of it off. I then started with the Rattle Trap (CHROME AND BLUE) and the game was on. This is not a fish story but one of those trips you do not forget for a long while and they do not happen every day. I kid you not both of us were catching Bass from 2 to 4 pounds every cast and this lasted for about 2 hours before someone turned off the light switch.

Everyone that knows me and fishes with me I do not keep Bass, but some of the fish hit the bait so hard and attempting to get the hook out hurt the fish and I knew that they would not make it if returned back to the lake. So later on today I will be taking some pictures of the fish fry that will be held and see if I do not get your mouth watering from Fish, Hush Puppies, French Fries.

Keep The Hooks Wet
