STEVE’S OCTOBER FISHING PREDICTIONS

September 26th, 2009 · No Comments

Well if you are like me in the Mid-South did not fish that much this past month, due to all the rain we have had. I kept saying I was going to the lake and about halfway through the month I figured I would let the lake come to my house.

One tip that I can give before I give you what the Astro Table is saying for October is This: Most of the lakes in the Mid-South will be drawing down all the lakes, to what they call WINTER POOL. This means that they will be moving a lot of water, in fact Wilson Dam has already started by opening their dam and letting the water come into Pickwick and Pickwick is doing the same by letting the water go straight on through toward KENTUCKY. I have fished Pickwick  a lot in October and have caught my biggest small-mouth while they were pulling water.

Try Fishing State-line Island both front and back with either a white rattle trap, White Crank-bait, or a quad Spinner-bait. On the Spinner-bait the first blade should be a gold willow leaf then the Chrome willow leaf, and the another gold willow leaf and finally a Chrome willow leaf. What this looks like a school of shad and the Bass and Crappie have their food bags on and stocking up for the winter. Find the grass and shad and I can promise you the fish will be there.

October Predictions ARE: Go to church on the 4Th (early service) if possible, and make sure that he boat and gear is behind your truck, so when you get out head to your favorite lake. This will be the Full Moon and from about 11am til 2:40pm is the major. With the water cooling down and the shad schooling you should catch some very respectful Fish. The next few days the 5Th through the 11Th Should be hot days for catching some nice fish and don’t forget the crappie should be right in there with the bass. So if you do not have the Freezer full for the winter, now is the time to stock up. Remember we are letting the bass go so next spring they will be in the lake to give you a fight of a lifetime.

The NEW MOON will be the 17th and I am thinking that you will only have about three to four days of major fishing and according to the ASTRO CHARTS after that to the end of the month it is saying fair to poor days to fish.

Most of all do what your gut tells you and if you are like me and get that itch to fish, “ Go For It” and try your luck. Remember the water is getting colder and the outside weather will be a lot cooler so dress for the outing and practice safety. Water 50 degrees you will last about 50 minutes in the water before you muscles start shutting down. Think buddy system and try and plan a trip with your buddy or family member.

Keep The Hooks Wet
