Can you believe that September is already here and the summer is almost over??? Don’t worry the fishing is just about to begin, with most of the anglers putting down their rod and lures and heading for the woods, it give the rest of us the whole lake.
I have been watching the water temps down South and see that the few cool nights that we have had some cooling. The water from 94 degrees to 87 and that is a a big improvement.
Wed September 8 will be the Dark Moon and from 12:15pm til 2:23pm that will be the Major fishing period and I will leave it up to you on how to get out of work, maybe it was something you ate last night. The Minor on the 8TH is from Midnight til 2:07am.
The FULL MOON will be on Thursday the 23RD with the Major fishing from 12:03pm til 2:29pm and the Minor from Midnight til 2:04am.
Like I always state be on the water at least 1 to 1/2 hours before the times, the fish do not have watches so they bite may start sooner than the times I have given or later.
I can tell you this, we down South have a great crop of shad this year and that tells me the Topwater bit should be something this fall. Time to break out the Buzz-Baits and make sure that the skirts are in good shape. MAKE SURE that you have a fluke tied on to at least one rod or any other soft plastic that looks like a shad.
If nothing else get outdoors and see the wonder of Fall, some of the sights a camera can not even grasp.

Even with all the heat I still find away to get out on the water and look for MR. Basshog this past two weeks, have found some nice fish at Enid Lake.
I have gone night fishing, found some nice four pounders but they did not bite until the late hours. The funny thing about all the fish that I caught like this past Monday the 23rd of August, I caught about 40 small ones then all of a sudden everything stop hitting my Texas Rig. It was about one hour later the four pounders moved in and started feeding, I guess they chased out the small ones.
I was throwing a Texas Rig with a 7 inch June-bug worm and was going back, and forth between a Texas rig and my Carolina Rig and I had that one rigged with a finesse worm with the same color (June-Bug). The Carolina seemed to get the small ones to hit it and while I was waiting on the big one to move in it was still fun catching the small ones.
I was fishing in about 12 feet of water and that is where I saw all my fish on my graph, the water was about 88 degrees (surface).
Another trip to the Tennessee Rive was Sunday the 22ND of August and I saw the grass starting to pop up above the water and I think in about two weeks the fishing around NEW JOHNSONVILLE should produce some nice fish around all the grass. The key here is with the fall just around the corner they are going to start letting water out of Pickwick and that means moving water int he river, that will get the fish to biting, not to mention they know that the cool weather is coming, will be putting on the feed bags and trying to get as much food as possible before the cold weather sets in.
I know a lot of the anglers are stowing the fishing items, breaking out the hunting attire and that gives the rest of us anglers the whole lake all to ourselves. Fall fishing is a great time, you get to see MOTHER NATURE at it finest, with the leaves changing, the nice weather. It is like I always say if you have never been out on the lake early morning in the fall it is the next thing to heaven.

Thought I would pass this on to my readers if you have not seen it yet. Awhile back I wrote a article about trolling motors and what I recommend.
Well a guy Named Andrew Youderian the sales Manager of Trolling Motors.net contacted me and said how impressed he was with my sites and offered to go into more depth than what I did and said he would write the articles and send them to me for my approval.
He did indeed get into the subject deeper than I did, but it still turned out he is also looking to save anglers some bucks and keep you from getting the wrong motor for your boat. I was dead on what I wrote, but Andrew went into more detail of why the motor that you pick out and what all the Bennie’s are.
This is to make a point that I try and get all the info about product to my readers and then let you decide what product to get.

Congrats goes out to John Kraichely he is the July winner of the Therma Cell Machine and has 30 days to reply with address to send it. Make sure that when you enter the contest you have a good email address so I can contact you if you are the winner. I have to know where to ship the prize.
It is so easy to win all you have to do is sign up on the contest page and start looking for me to contact you and announce that your name has won the prize for that month. You can not win if you do not sign up.
Folks I can not tell you how well this Thermacell works and as much as I am outdoors I use mine every-trip. I do not like to donate blood to those insects and the black flies do not mess with me either.
If you miss the chance to win a Thermacell on my contest make sure that you log onto www.basshogfishing.com and look on the right side at the bottom and order your Thermacell machine. If I get a whole bunch of folks to order one I have a chance to win a bow that I will in return put up on the contest page as a prize. So the way I see it you could win twice in a month. It make a great gift with Christmas on the way, or a birthday, I know that the person that gets it will appreciate it very much and thank you many times. Become of of those that does not donate blood to those insects, and you will see the very first time that you use it on how well it keeps you from getting attack.

I have had a reader contact me and see if I could get some information on a Bass Club that their son could join. Jared is 13 years old and is hooked for sure in Bass Fishing and is looking for a club to join in the Brooks, KY area. If anyone out there has a club contact for me to pass on to Jared I would appreciate it and I have already sent emails to the Wildlife in KY. Please help get this guy signed up so he can fish his heart out and who knows maybe it might be a KVD JR in our mist.
Thanks,

July 23RD - 25TH did not work out as I had planned to Pick-Wick this past week end, It was hot and I have never seen so much traffic on the water. I did see other anglers and they were not catching any fish either. Maybe it was the last time out for a lot of kids seeing school is about to start in about two weeks. Jet Skis and Wave Runners were everywhere and could not get away from them.
We tried early in the morning and after dark and only got one bite and missed the fish, the water temp was around 89 degrees and did not see any grass up at STATE LINE ISLAND, but did find some at PANTER CREEK and I tried a Frog, WORM, CRANK BAIT ( Lip and Lip-less).
Pickwick did not move any water this past weekend and I am sure that is why the fishing was so poor this weekend, and I saw a few balls of shad, but nothing like last year. Maybe it is a little early for the shad, I know when the shad come up you can almost walk across the water with so many shad up you can not go wrong throwing a Rattle Trap in the middle of the shad.
I think that I will try below the dam and see if I can find some cooler water and maybe better luck. I will try and get on the river the first part of August and will let all my readers what I find.
In closing had another angler tell me his latest trip to Enid Lake turned out just about the way my trip to Pickwick and I bet Sardis is about the same. The water is to hot for the bass to move up and most of what I saw the were holding about 14 feet down and would not hit even the Shaky Head.

I know a lot of you use the Dip It and must warn you that if left in the sun it will turn brown and you will loose the effect of it. Be careful when you go to buy it and pay close attention when picking a bottle up, inspect it close and if it does not have that bright Chartreuse color place it back and keep looking for one that does.
Another good tip is to use the sweat bands for your wrist to place the bottle in and will not allow the sun to get to it. If you do not want to spend the bucks and I am always looking to save my fellow anglers some bucks….wrap duct tape or the black electrical tape around the bottle. Still try and keep it out of direct sunlight and put below deck or you pocket if possible….make sure the top is on tight do not want you to end up with yellow pants or even yellow colored skin…it stains just like is says.
It should have a strong garlic smell to it and if you think it is not a strong as when you bought it…it may be time to get another bottle or try using the spray in a can. It runs about $5.99 a can and will last you about three fishing trips and will warn you now the tops will split and if again you use some duct tape around the top, you should not have a problem.
RING WORM
Since I have talked so much about the Junebug Ring WORM that Bass Pro use to have they have dropped it from their stock. I have talked with Bass Pro and if I can get most of my readers to send them a email to bring back the Ring Worm they said if they saw enough interest it is possible. I have looked through-out the United States for that worm and believe to have bought all the ones around just before Bass Pro stopped carrying them.
I did find who use to make the worm for Bass Pro and have also talked with them about me ordering the ring worm and they said no problem if I did not mind my first order for 5600 worms. Do not know what I would do with that many worms, on the other hand have used about 8 packs since Bass Pro stopped carrying the worm. I know if I do order them and get a request for them it would cost the angler about $10 for a package of 18 worms. Have not decided if I want that many worms yet, but if I do decide I will Be sure to let all my readers know.

A few weeks ago I added a tip on my Basshogfishing site that I have been using for the past two weeks and it has proved to be something.
The Texas rigged Worm I have added three beads that will cause some noise under water at night and have been catching some nice fish. Nothing so far under three pounds and to me it goes back to the old saying if it works let the folks know.
I have posted some pictures of the night trips and with the way the weather has been and the heat that we are having nothing beats being out on the lake at night. Granted it is still hot but with a small breeze and no one else to share the lake with makes for a great fishing trip. I use my Thermacell to keep those blood suckers from making a withdraw from me and have switched to PROPEL Water (grape) to keep me from drying out.
Try using the three beads and see if I am not wrong on the amount of bass you get in the boat. The first trip we boated more than 30 bass and it seems that the numbers are going up every trip.
Good luck and be Safe
