Bass Fishing Tools - Selecting Proper Reel Rod Line and Lure Combo
Here is a quick run down on the Proper Bass Fishing Tools Combination to
land a bass hog:
When fishing thicker cover, you do not want to throw a crankbait into the middle
of the tree so you might be using a single hook set up like the
Texas rig worm with line that is either braid or 17 pound monofilament for example.
The rod should be a Medium Heavy to Heavy rod
to horse him/her out. Longer rods will allow you to cast further and shorter rods will give you more accurate when presenting lures.
O.K. got you all confused? Check out the chart I created below as a quick go to guide that may help you.

Weightless Soft Plastic - Use a
Medium Action rod this will let you cast light baits and still have the power
to set the hook.
Plugs or Hard Baits With Treble
Hooks - Choose a rod that you feel will do the job, get one
too stiff and it will tear the lips.
Jig - You want a rod that has plenty
of backbone.
Spinner Baits - Use a fast reel like
the 7-1-1 or the 6-3-1. I always tell people at the seminars
I conduct that you can get a high speed reel and if you need slow it down
to a 5-2-1, all you have to do is slow down. However, get a 5-2-1 reel and you will wear your arm out if you need to speed it up.
Fishing Small Soft Plastic Baits -
You can use a light action rod with light line. If you try and use heavy line,
it will affect the action of the bait and you might come home empty handed,
and no pictures on the camera.
I hope that will help you in making your choice, and also if your just starting
off in this sport look for a Rod that will do double duty.
It is like I said many articles ago this
sport is not cheap anymore. Like the old saying goes, Guy and girls when
you get older, your toys cost more.
Keep the Hooks Wet!
